The Gender Section of the Office of the Secretary General (OSG) supports the efforts of the OSCE Secretary General to promote a continuous and sustainable gender mainstreaming process across the Organization and the full implementation of the 2004 Action Plan for the Promotion of Gender Equality, as well as other gender-related commitments undertaken by the OSCE participating States. It assists and advises the OSCE structures in the implementation of the Action Plan by providing technical assistance for the mainstreaming of gender in all activities, policies, programmes and projects.
The Office is looking for an intern for up to 6 months to start in April-May 2017. The selected intern will have an excellent opportunity of gaining an overview of how the OSCE integrates a gender perspective in its work as well as insight into the current priorities and activities of the Gender Section.
Under the supervision/guidance of the Adviser on Gender Issues, the Intern, Gender Section, will be tasked with:
- Conducting desk research on gender issues in the OSCE region for the three OSCE dimensions;
- Providing support in the organization of gender-related conferences and events;
- Assisting in preparing updates, reports and publications on gender issues in the OSCE region;
- Participating in relevant meetings and events and prepare meeting notes and summaries;
- Providing any other relevant duties related to ongoing support to Gender Section as requested.

- Applicants should be under the age of 30 on the date of the deadline and from an OSCE participating State;
- First level university degree in gender studies, international relations, human rights studies or related subjects. Students within one year of graduation from a university or other accredited institution of higher education at the graduate or postgraduate level, as well as recent graduates or postgraduates, are eligible to apply;
- Some previous work experience or an internship related to conducting desk research would be an asset;
- Strong analytical, research and drafting skills;
- Professional fluency in English and very good communication skills; knowledge of another OSCE language, especially Russian, would be an asset;
- Good organizational skills with ability to process and classify information quickly and efficiently;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people from different national and cultural backgrounds, whilst maintaining impartiality and objectivity.
