Responsibilities
Within assigned authority, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

•Provide client services to library patrons including research assistance, retrieval, check-out, discharge and recalls of materials.
•Assist with outreach activities, including library presentations, training sessions, and marketing materials.
•Assist in the review of sources to identify appropriate materials that meet the information needs of the Organisation and its information clientele.
•Assist in development and maintenance of the UN Library-Vienna catalogue and other relevant databases, keeping data accurate and current, and preparing new material for inclusion as needed.
•Perform original and copy cataloguing of incoming library materials, as well as modify existing bibliographic records to ensure accuracy in the library catalogue.
•Perform collection maintenance using knowledge of various classification systems and libraries’ specialized collection arrangements.
•Provide technical support and instruction to library patrons using electronic resources and reference tools.
•Perform searches of a wide variety of full-text databases to locate specific items requested.
•Procure updated materials, in connection with orders placed by library clients in the United Nations Office in Vienna, and follow up as needed.
•Oversee and maintain library subscriptions in print and electronic formats, including acquisitions of new titles (serials or databases) based on client needs.
•Prepare new material for inclusion in the appropriate web pages. 
•Provide statistical data for assessing usefulness and relevance of electronic materials.
•Provide technical support for library digitization operations.
•Assist in management of library accounts and other library-related records.
•Co-ordinate work and/or participate in training of new library staff and interns.
•Provide administrative support for the section and unit chief.
•Perform other work related duties as assigned.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Must have passed the United Nations Administrative Support Assessment Test (ASAT) or the Global General Service Test (GGST) at Headquarters or an equivalent locally-administered test at Offices Away from Headquarters.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of experience in library work, archives, information network administration or related field is required. Work experience with integrated library systems with an Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) is required. Experience in cataloguing using an integrated library management system (ILS) and with SAP based applications such as Umoja or similar business process system is highly desirable. Working experience in and knowledge of Machine readable Cataloguing (MARC) records and classification systems such as the Universal Decimal Classification (used in UN Libraries), Dewey Decimal Classification or Library of Congress is an asset.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
