Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the duties of the Programme Officer will include, inter alia, the following: 

•Participate in the conceptualizing, planning and implementing of actions in preparation for UNISPACE+50.
•Participate in the planning of, and conducts the implementation and evaluation of activities and initiatives organized under the framework of the UNISPACE+50 thematic priorities, including developing the programme elements and proposing key speakers and participants.
•Support the preparations, drafting related documents and reports, and servicing of the High Level Forum on “Space a driver for socio-economic development”.
•Contribute to strengthening the implementation of the Office’s efforts towards the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
•Carry out research on related aspects of UNISPACE+50 as well as other programmes, operations and activities of the Office, including collecting, analyzing and presenting statistical data and other information gathered from diverse sources.
•Prepare inputs for publications, draft speeches, statements and presentations for the Director to major global conferences and meetings of the United Nations and space-related entities, the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space and its subsidiary bodies.
•Prepare various written outputs of the Office, e.g. background papers, analytical and briefing notes, and sections of official reports and studies.
•Support planning and implementation of the Office’s programme of work.
•Support the Office’s fund-raising efforts, including the preparation of draft concept notes, funding proposals, draft donor agreements and reports for existing and new donors. 
•Support, as necessary, the implementation of outreach activities originating from the Office of the Director, to promote UNISPACE+50 and the Office’s capacity building initiatives, including Office’s public relations and outreach campaigns.
•Works with key clients to facilitate the development, implementation and evaluation of assigned programmes/projects, including identifying and tracking follow-up actions.
•Respond to a variety of inquiries and information requests internally and externally and prepare related correspondence.
•Perform other duties as assigned
Competencies

Has knowledge and familiarity with United Nations activities, in particular with reference to the sustainable development goals and 2030 agenda, as well as the issues discussed in the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space and its subsidiary bodies. Ability to identify issues, analyse and participate in the resolution of issues/problems. Ability to conduct data collection using various methods. Conceptual analytical and evaluative skills to conduct independent research and analysis, including familiarity with and experience in the use of various research sources, including electronic sources on the internet, intranet and other databases. Ability to apply judgment in the context of assignments given, plan own work and manage conflicting priorities. Education
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in international relations, political science or a related field is required. A first-level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in programme/project management and implementation is required, a minimum of three years of which should be at the international level in a space-related entity. Experience in strategic planning and implementing activities in a space-related field is required. Experience in conducting research, preparing background papers, strategic statements, briefs for high-level meetings, and presentations for senior management is required. Experience in the preparation of concept notes, funding proposals, agreements and reports highly desirable. Experience in United Nations activities, in particular the issues discussed in the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space and its subsidiary bodies, is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
